Chi segue il mio blog sa che sono un appassionato di serie televisive (di un certo tipo…), ergo non potevo non dire la mia su questi ultimi due giorni.

Perchè?

Perchè stanno andando in programmazione due di alcune delle più interessanti serie televisive di quella che mi piace chiamare la new wave televisiva USA.


La prima (in ordine) di programmazione è Numbers (anzi Numb3rs).
Prodotta dai fratelli Scott (Ridley – Alien e Blade Runner – e Tony – Top Gun e Spy Game), è la storia di un brillante matematico che grazie alla sua spiccata sensibilità nei confronti di questa disciplina, da una mano al fratello agente dell’FBI per risolvere alcuni casi emblematici.

Cosa va
Bella l’idea di provare a dare ordine ad un universo senz’ordine come quello del crimine (mica tanto disordinato però).
In realtà teorie e analisi matematiche hanno lo scopo di fungere da “filosofia” per acchiappare criminali (come il serial killer del pilot o i rapinatori del secondo episodio). Un po’ come è già avvenuto con la puntata “Teoria del caos” di CSI 🙂 .

Cosa non va
Troppo presente l’atmosfera a là A Beautiful Mind, e troppo sfruttato lo stereotipo del matematico che scrive senza posa formule incomprensibili fino a giungere alla verità. Altrettanto antipatico lo stereotipo del matematico disadattato socialmente.
Insomma matematici e matematica ne escono fuori come stereotipi da fenomeni di baraccone.
Anche i dialoghi non aiutano in questo:

“Ho scritto l’equazione che permette di individuare dove vive il nostro assassino”

Ma quando mai!
Magari si potesse fare una cosa del genere: noi sociologi invece di usare la statistica useremmo le equazioni differenziali, o magari la trasformata di Fourier.
Inoltre insopportabile il claim della serie:

Il primo serial che usa la numerologia come chiave dell’indagine.

Numerologia?
E perchè no l’astrologia celtica o l’oroscopo cinese?
La numerologia è un’arte mantica, cioè è un meccanismo divinatorio senza basi scientifiche.
La matematica no, è una scienza formale, ma non esoterica (piuttosto potremmo chiamarla essoterica).
Non mi pare una cosetta da poco. Già in Italia la matematica è bistrattata, manca solo una cattiva comunicazione e il gioco – il cui premio in palio è l’ignoranza – è fatto.

Giudizio complessivo
Affascinante. Credo che col tempo migliorerà (domanda ai beninformati: ma anche questa serie è passata su Fox?)

L’altra serie invece è Lost, che ha al suo attivo svariate decine di fan anche in Italia (tra cui il mio amico Luca Pandemia).
Di cosa si tratta?
Un aereo si schianta su un’isola e i sopravvissuti dovranno vedersela con i problemi legati alla sopravvivenza e ai misteri che la circondano.
Sembra un inizio come un altro, vero? Invece la serie è tutt’altro che prevedibile

Cosa va
Tre parole: ritmo, suspance, topoi.
Ritmo. Il pilot che ho visto ieri sera riesce ad alternare bene momenti lenti con momenti concitati /quest’ultimi preparati dai momenti lenti).
Suspance. L’isola nasconde dei misteri (una bestia – detta scherzosamente dai fan “Lostzilla” – che abbatte gli alberi al suo passaggio, un orso bianco in Oceania, uno strano messaggio radio ad anello). Ma anche i sopravissuti nascondono dei mesiteri. Per i più scafati: due ottimi canovacci per far proseguire gli episodi ad libitum.
Topoi. L’isola, (un nome per tutti: Jules Verne), la lotta per la sopravvivenza (un classico: Golding “il signore delle mosche”), lo scenario corale (Ed McBain docet. Praticamente tutte le serie della New Wave TV USA: da CSI a Desperate Houseviwes), la bestia mai inquadrata (vecchio adagio da cinema horror di serie B: il miglior mostro è quello che non viene inquadrato).

Cosa non va
Per adesso il sistema mi pare che regga, anche alla luce del fatto che i prossimi episodi – come era prevedibile – si concentreranno sui singoli sopravissuti.
Aspettiamo e vederemo.

Se posso dare un giudizio strettamente personale, il pilot mi è piaciuto molto, ma non mi ha entusiasmato (però ricordo FondamentaLOSTi che non sono un appassionato del genere).
Però ammetto che ci sono tutti gli ingredienti per renderlo una serie di culto.

Se posso partire per la tangente, mi sembra però che la serie abbia una sua “vita” (non saprei come chiamarla altrimenti), perchè il modo migliore per descrivere la condizione esistenziale contemporanea è la metafora della sopravvivenza.
Guerre, sicurezza, controllo sono tracce di una forma culturale legata all’ “aver paura di”, anche se non sai di cosa.

Vabbeh.
