Dopo tre anni di studi, ricerche e attesa di finanziamenti, la Bangalore Valley (ovvero la Silicon Valley indiana) ha commercializzato finalmente il Simputer .

Il simputer si presenta come un palmare come tanti altri altri, in realtà alcune caratteristiche tecniche e progettuali lo rendono un prodotto "etico". Infatti è pensato per uso collettivo invece che individuale, ha una serie di applicativi pensati per poter essere utilizzati da persone analfabeti e può essere adottato anche per insegnare a leggere e a scrivere.

Il Simputer è prodotto dalla Bharat Elecronics, società di proprietà del governo indiano specializzata nella produzione di istemi di difesa. Ma il particolare tipo di licenza a cui è sottoposto, permette che altre società lo possano produrre senza incappare in norme pro-copyright, come la Encore Software.

Da venerdì è in distribuzione in tutta Bangalore al costo di 150 euro, tanto per una sola persona, relativamente abbordabile per piccole comunità.
