Infatti è un progetto open source che si presenta come “platform for researching, optimizing and sharing the supply chains behind a number of everyday products”.
Si ma cos’è il supply chain?

Nonostante l’alta popolarità del supply chain management sia nella teoria che nella pratica non esiste unanime consenso sul suo significato, anche perché il suo sviluppo in ambito manageriale e accademico è recente. In pratica si comporta come un sistema per la creazione e condivisione di mappe che indicano l’origine dei prodotti.
E’ un ottimo esempio per visualizzare processi sociali come la globalizzazione e le dinamiche che rendono possibili attraverso cui esiste una divisione sociale del mondo (paesi che producono, paesi che consumano, paesi che fungono da intermediari).
Le mappe – embeddabili (vedi sopra) – sono frutto di un mash up con Google Maps e come tale possono avere anche le stesse visualizzazioni
Il progetto ha anche un interessante blog, che oltre a raccontare gli sviluppi del progetto, racconta anche di interessanti progetti di infografica basata su mappe.
Uno strumento decisamente interesssante.
