Chi sta leggendo questo post per via del titolo e si aspetta qualcosa che abbia a che fare con la i racconti di fantascienza o il cinema horror, continui a leggere perché resterà sorpreso.
Qualche giorno fa il CDC di Atlanta ha rilasciato un documento in cui si illustrano quali sono le regole – igieniche, epidemiologiche, sociali – per sopravvivere a quella che loro chiamano una apocalisse zombie.
Per chi non lo sapesse, CDC sta per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ovvero Centro per il Controllo delle Malattie e per la Prevenzione, un ente federale USA che attraverso la sua rete di laboratori sparsi sul territorio statunitense, si occupa di temi legati alla sorveglianza biomedica, che è stato anche immortalato in film (come Virus Letale e Mission Impossible 2) e in serie televisive (è infatti parziale protagonista di Medical Investigations).
Un centro serio, importante, governativo: allora perché cimentarsi con gli zombie e non con l’antrace, il bioterrorismo o il virus Ebola?
Perchè, a detta degli esperti, gli zombie sono un parto della fantasia (affermazione non completamente vera…) del cinema horror, che ha abituato la cultura pop ad un evento di questo genere e che può dare indicazioni interessanti per sapere come reagire ad infezioni reali di natura più o meno sconosciuta.
Pertanto prepararsi ad una apocalisse zombie è un quesito che può essere tradotto: “quali sono le regole da seguire in caso di rapida diffusione di un virus che si trasmette per contatto dalla mortalità pari al 100%?”
Le regole sono:
1. Preparare un kit di emergenza per affrontare la crisi (che contiene acqua, cibo non deperibile, batterie, radio, torce, sapone, documenti ed altre cose specificamente dettagliate in questa pagina appositamente predisposta dal CDC)
2. Avere un piano di emergenza che preveda:
a. identificare i tipi di emergenza tipici della propria area (terremoti, vulcani… zombie)
b. definire un punto di incontro in caso di dispersione dei componenti familiari
c. identificare i propri contatti di emergenza (polizia, vigili del fuoco, unità anti-zombie)
d. un percorso per l’evacuazione rapida dal centro abitato.
Quello che mi sembra interessante, è lo stile di comunicazione della scienza adottato dal CDC.
Uno dei problemi della comunicazione delle situazione di crisi è lo spiacevole effetto boomerang, ovvero la voglia di rimuovere psicologicamente il rischio che porta a non ascoltare le indicazioni di allerta.
Pertanto l’escamotage narrativo di usare una causa improbabile per sensibilizzare sul tema dell’effettiva sicurezza su disastri e calamità mi sembra ben riuscito, oltre che fonte di ispirazione per i futuri film sugli zombie in cui la popolazione non si troverà impreparata, ma reagirà come se si trovasse davanti ad un uragano, un’invasione di cavalette, un terremoto.
E quando vedrete i vostri vicini in conclamato stato di decomposizione avanzare verso casa vostra per nutrirsi delle vostre carni, saprete come reagire mantenendo sangue freddo.
