E’ questa la domanda a cui hanno provato a rispondere Eric Gilbert e Tanushree Mitra del Computer Social Lab alla Georgia Tech University, in una ricerca il cui paper dal titolo “The Language that Gets People to Give: Phrases that Predict Success on Kickstarter e i relativi risultati saranno presentati alla 17th ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW 2014) che si terrà a Baltimora dal 15 al 19 febbraio 2014.
La ricerca ha analizzato più di 45.000 progetti di crowdfunding sulla celebre piattaforma Kickstarter a partire dal giugno 2012 ad oggi.
Dopo aver filtrato variabili come obiettivi del progetto, video, connessioni con altre piattaforme, i due ricercatori hanno scoperto che il linguaggio usato per descrivere il progetto di crowdfunding pesa poco meno del 60% (58,56%) sul successo della campagna.
Lo studio si è concentrato su oltre 20.000 frasi, fino alla compilazione di un dizionario di 100 frasi che hanno il potere di anticipare il successo o il fallimento di un progetto. La caratteristica di queste frasi è che fanno riferimento a principi di persuasione di tipo generale.
Le strategie generali di persuasione a cui le frasi fanno riferimento sono le seguenti:
Reciprocità, ovvero la tendenza di avere qualcosa in cambio se si svolge una specifica azione (“riceverà anche….).
Scarsità, o il collegamento a qualcosa di raro (“data la posssibilità di….”).
Prova sociale, ovvero la dipendenza dalle persone da apprezzamento (“X si è impegnato per…”.
Identità sociale, intesa come appartenenza ad un gruppo sociale specifico (“per sviluppare il suo progettod estinato a …”.
Simpatia, nel senso che le persone apprezzano chi rivolge loro.
Autorità, la capacità di prendere decisioni rapide ed efficaci (“il progetto sarà….”)
