Siamo a poche ore dal cenone della vigilia di Natale e mi sembra una buona occasione per usare internet per rafforzare l’immaginario natalizio.
Proviamo a rispondere a questa domanda: come fare a monitorare il viaggio di Babbo Natale?

Ci sono due progetti interessanti: Santa Tracker e NORAD Santa.

Santa Tracker è un progetto di Google che visualizza su una mappa del globo il viaggio di Babbo Natale.
Oltre ad utilizzare una serie di metriche pertinenti – numero di regali consegnati, status update di Babbo Natale, distanza percorsa – ha anche una serie di funzioni per giocare con Elfi, il villaggio, costruire giocattoli e altro ancora.
Molto divertente la spiegazione del progetto considerando l’inequivocabile esistenza di Babbo Natale 😉
Inutile dire che Santa Tracker ha una versione Android, Chrome app, Chromecast

NORAD Santa è un progetto del NORAD – North American Aerospace Defense Command ovvero Comando di Difesa Aerospaziale del Nord-America – che presumibilmente per motivi di sicurezza (?) monitora il viaggio di Babbo Natale, anche qui con una serie di metriche come numero di regali consegnati e città incontrate nel suo viaggio.
La visualizzazione utilizzata è quella di un Babbo Natale in 3D con tanto di renne proiettato su una mappa della terra.
Anche qui ci sono diverse funzioni: giochi, juke box natalizio, un piccolo report sull’esistenza di Babbo Natale.
Curioso che sia il NORAD a sponsorizzare questo (ormai classico) progetto. Per gli appassionati di cultura cinematografica è il centro di difesa in cui è ambientato il mitico WarGames (il primo film con trama hacker del 1983).
