Martedì scorso sono stato a Viterbo, per tenere un seminario all’Università della Tuscia sul tema delle caratteristiche Facebook, invitato dall’amico e collega Giovanni Fiorentino.
Il seminario è stato organizzato in occasione dell’uscita del libro Galassia Facebook, edito dalla casa editrice Nutrimenti.
Il libro è una raccolta di saggi messa insieme da Giovanni Fiorentino e Mario Pireddu – anche lui come me coinvolto nel seminario di Viterbo.
Come i mediologi avranno senza dubbio notato, il titolo riecheggia il celebre Galassia Gutenberg di Marshall McLuhan, libro con cui il sociologo canadese parlava della parola scritta come frame simbolico dall’enorme impatto culturale.

Oltre ai saggi di Giovanni (Face/Faces, identità e rappresentazione. Dal singolare al plurale) e Mario (Facebook: comunicazione e reti sociali. Uno sguardo laico), ci sono diversi autori noti per chi bazzica la blogosfera come Luca Conti (Facebook per il business, tra marketing 2.0 e pubblicità social), Giovanni Boccia Artieri, Fabio Giglietto e Luca Rossi (Facebook, Twitter & co. Una mutazione possibile per la ricerca sociale), e ovviamente il sottoscritto, con un pezzo tecnoetico (Etica dei social network. Valori e comportamenti sociali in Facebook).
Di cosa abbiamo parlato a Viterbo?
Il seminario mi ha visto coinvolto nella duplice veste di sociologo e uomo di marketing (ebbene si: nel mondo del marketing dei social media, anche i sociologi hanno qualcosa da dire), e su questi temi si è svolta la mia riflessione.
Per quanto riguarda la componente sociologica, ho strutturato un ragionamento sulla “Sociologia di Facebook”, provando a delineare quali sono i meccanismo sociologici di funzionamento della piattaforma e come alcuni temi dell’uso di Facebook si intrecciano sulla attuale ricerca sulle/nelle reti sociali.

Per quanto riguarda la componente marketing, il mio discorso si è dipanato su tre temi portanti: le strategie di profilatura degli utenti (datamining, profiling, tracking), la presenza dei brand in Facebook (Fanpage e relative metriche, anche se sul tema delle Fanpage si è soffermato Mario), la struttura dei grafi (social graph, open graph, interest graph).
Soprattutto l’interest graph è sociologicamente molto interessante: l’intreccio di connessioni con persone e con oggetti digitali che indicano i nostri interessi di consumo e gusti culturali, che per certi versi riecheggia Bourdieu e qualcuno ha chiamato “tessuto del gusto“.
