Nel dibattito delle scienze sociali contemporanee, sta prendendo sempre maggiore visibilità un concetto relativamente nuovo che si presenta come un paradigma molto interessante per collocare il contesto di lavoro delle discipline dell’uomo: la sociologia digitale.
Il termine ufficialmente comincia a essere usato nel 2009, ma diventa un elemento chiave dell’orientamento sociologico internazionale nel 2013 quando si comincia a sentire l’esigenza di convegni dedicati, volumi specifici e linee di ricerca sostanzialmente nuove.
Descritto in questo modo potrebbe sembrare un nuovo assetto della sociologia contemporanea e in quanto tale di specifico interesse del mondo accademico che si confronta con strumenti e concetti nuovi, spesso oscuri e poco interessanti per la maggior parte delle persone.
Pur essendo un orientamento importante della ricerca contemporanea, la sociologia digitale è un ambito che molto avrebbe da dire su come affrontare alcuni problemi contemporanei e su come gestire alcuni processi che hanno mostrato quanto sia obsoleto usare i modelli cognitivi che abbiamo avuto in eredità dal XX e dal XXI secolo.

Quindi prosaicamente la domanda diventa: a che serve la sociologia digitale?
